Metropolis A.D. , Shenyang

The Metropolis AD project site is located within the main city area, with Liaoning University’s campus immediately to the south and Xinkai River and Nujiang Park to the north. In addition to the intrinsic value of the site’s central location, the site itself has two unique characteristics. First, the site is extremely narrow from north to south, creating a permanent green riverside park and “riverside life” interior area that is separated from the street, with Nujiang Park immediately across the river to the north, extending for a kilometer along the riverbank. Secondly, the site is adjacent to Liaoning University; the waterfront campus, which acts as a hub for the neighborhood, has provided the basis for the main axis of the planning and design of the project. The planning of the project is carried out within the space between these two zones, linking the riverside green space with the academic life of the University. A courtyard and street-corner plaza connect the project with the two adjacent sites, forming different spaces with varying levels of seclusion from the public areas. The building elevations take cues from the neoclassical form of post-war high rises on the edge of Manhattan’s Central Park, emphasizing urbanism and high-end living.
