Qingdao Ocean Science and Technology Park consists of a half-open public plaza at the southeast corner of the site, a hotel logistics area in the northwest, a pair of small high-rise offices at the eastern entrance, and two rows of low-rise R&D buildings arranged along the mountain. Ocean Plaza’s open space leads from the industrial park’s core to a landscaped greenway, forming the primary landscape axis. The project is laid out to minimize disturbance to the existing grade on site. The first and second floors of the front row of buildings have main and secondary entrances onto the park. The rear row of houses is arranged to form a semi-open court, and they have interior courtyards according to their individual functional requirements. The design uses grids, terraces, sloping roofs, skylights and other design techniques to echo the marine theme. The façade of the Ocean Plaza high-rise office, which uses architectural elements to mimic the form of ocean waves, is the landmark of the development.
